Detroit is a really famous city has been abandoned because of its financial failure. In recent years, blighted buildings are used as location for filming movies. Even sometimes this city is called “The City of Crime”, “The Miserable City”, and “The City of An End”, Detroit is one of the most beautiful cities for me. In 2012, I explored some abandoned places in Detroit. I’ll show highlights make you identified with the decline of a huge city.

The Packard plant was opened in 1907. I can say Packard Automotive Plant is one of the largest abandoned automobile plants in Detroit! It covers 325000 square meters! Nowadays, this place is really famous as a film shooting place.

Lee Plaza is a vacant high-rise apartment building in Detroit, Michigan. It’s possible to go inside, however I never recommend because this apartment is also called “a Hotbed of Junkies”.

The Redford High School was a secondary educational facility opened in 1921; but, owing to a huge depopulation, it was closed in June, 2007. Demolition work was started in June 2012, it was finished in November.
レッドフォード高校は、ミシガン州デトロイトの中学校と高校がある二次教育施設として1924年にオープンしました。 しかし、人口の激減に伴い2007年6月に閉鎖。2012年6月には解体作業が開始されて、11月には更地になったそうです。

This St. Agnes Church was built in 1924. Many pilgrims of the parish visited this place. The church was closed in 1989 because of a same reason of other buildings. Later on, this was reconstructed as an African-American Catholic parish, Martyrs of Uganda. Why did people have to spoil the church? The building was very old and maintenance fee was too expensive for them. And also because a new church has been in this area, St. Agnes Church was abandoned.
聖アグネス教会は1924年にラサールパーク地区に建てられました。人口の減少もあり1989年に一時閉鎖。その後、アフリカ系アメリカ人のウガンダ殉教者のための教会として利用されました。…が建物が古くメンテナンスする資金源もなくなり、さらにこの教区には既に新しい教会があったので聖アグネス教会は放棄されました

The Abandoned St. Agnes Catholic School, next to the St. Agnes Church, is located in a residential area of Detroit. It was established by the parish congregation for Ugandan catholic children in 1917. Although thousands of students had been educated at this school for over 60 years, they decided to close this because of decrease of students.
聖アグネスカトリック学校は、デトロイトの住宅街に位置し、聖アグネス教会の隣にあります。これは、ウガンダのカトリックの子供のために教区の殉教者によって1917年にオープンしました。学校は６０年間で何千人もの生徒が教育を受けましたが、デトロイトの人口減少及び生徒減少のために2000年に閉鎖されました。

The Brush Park Historic District, designated by the city, is a 24 block neighborhood located in Detroit midtown. French Renaissance Revival, Victorian style homes are in line with the residential area. Nowadays this historical building is on the verge of collapse. Montainai! By the way, those are on sale now! Fisher Body is an automobile coach builder founded by the Fisher brothers in 1908 in Detroit; it was an operating division of General Motors Company. Although Fisher car had been popular until the mid-1990s, along with the end of the automobile industry boom, the plant was also a closure. Now this spectacular building is abandoned, but this place is also JUNKIES’ HOMEGROUND. Be careful…

The Sattler Theatre opened in 1914. This abandoned theater was founded by John G. Sattler, It was designed by architect Henry L. Span. After that, The building was used for various religious services until closed again in 1996. And now it is lost forever.
サトラーシアターはバッファローにあり、デトロイトにあるわけではありませんが、古い歴史を持った素晴らしい劇場の廃墟です。劇場としての役目を終えた建物は、様々な宗教の活動の場として転用されましたが1996年からずっと廃墟でしたが、ここ最近でどうやら転用されたようです。
